The match between Fiorentina and Inter Milan on Sunday for the 14th day of the Italian football championship (Serie A) was interrupted after the illness of Florentine player Edoardo Bove.
The Italian midfielder from Fiorentina collapsed on the pitch just a quarter of an hour after the start of the match, while the two teams were tied 0-0, according to Italian media, which specifies that the match will be replayed.
The 22-year-old suffered convulsions on the pitch at the Artemio-Franchi stadium in Florence, forcing the referee to interrupt the match and the two teams to return to the locker rooms.
Fiorentina said Bove was sedated in the intensive care unit at Florence's Careggi hospital, where he arrived in a “stable” condition. “The first cardiological and neurological examinations made it possible to exclude serious lesions of the central nervous system and the cardio-respiratory system,” said a joint press release from the hospital and the club.
The Italian League then announced in a press release that the match was definitively stopped and would be rescheduled to an as yet undetermined date.
Inter Milan and Fiorentina are part of a quartet, with Atalanta and Lazio, each having 28 points in the runner-up position in the general classification of the Italian championship, four lengths behind leader Naples.
