This is good news for the commune of Pouébo, while the situation on the fire front is often under tension in the North. The town hall will soon have its own emergency center and human resources. A project initially planned for 2024, but which was delayed due to the crisis underway since May in Caledonia. Work is due to begin in the coming weeks.

The project is already on track. The commune of Pouébo will soon have a rescue center. The building will be located in the heart of the village, near the football field.

A new essential service for this town which, until now, calls upon the Hienghène firefighters, in particular for fires, which have been very frequent in recent weeks. “The rescue center was normally supposed to be built this year. But with the events, we had to postpone until next year. Normally, in December we should start the earthworks and from January, we move on to the construction which will last eight months”details Florentin Dédane, mayor of Pouébo.

The census was carried out for future firefighters who will have to undergo training. “For the volunteer firefighters, we already have the list of people. By September next year, we will have recruited all the firefighters.”

Unsurprisingly, the crisis, which has hit New Caledonia since last May, has had other indirect repercussions. “When we signed this year's contracts in March, the entire order was placed, for the construction and for the vehicles. They were normally supposed to be delivered in June. But as the company which equipped the vehicles was burned down in Nouméa, it was delayed. We are now waiting for insurance to collect them in Koné.
