The evening of Saturday November 30 turned into a tragedy in Trouville-sur-Mer in Calvados. While a parade was taking place to celebrate the start of the Christmas period, a metal structure fell on the crowd, injuring more than a dozen people.
A short party. This Saturday, a float presented during a Christmas parade collapsed on part of the public in Trouville-sur-Mer in Calvados, causing several injuries.
The gathering which took place in the streets of Trouville was to kick off the Christmas lights in the town. Organized by the tourist office, the latter called on the Nice artistic company, Planète Vapeur, to launch the festivities and provide the public with an unforgettable moment.
The artists were performing their show Fantasia Céleste, around 7 p.m., when one of the company's floats, a several meter long work representing a blue bird, collapsed on the crowd.
Psychological unit and open investigation
There were a total of thirteen injuries, including two serious. This Sunday morning, the mayor of the town, Sylvie De Gaetano, indicated that no one was seriously injured, even if two people suffered skull fractures. In addition, a two-year-old girl is among the injured.
The circumstances of the accident have not yet been revealed. During the evening, the police spoke of a metal structure which “was perhaps not well stabilized”.
An investigation has been opened and should help clarify the circumstances of the tragedy. Note that the company has some experience in the field of entertainment since it was founded in 2006.
In the aftermath of the disaster, the city's mayor conveyed her support to the victims and declared that she was “sorry”. The staff of the tourist office, for their part, thanked the emergency services and “all the people present on the scene who were able to provide first aid and comfort to the injured as well as the nearby restaurants and hotels which welcomed the victims”.
Le Parisien indicates that a psychological unit has been opened to help people affected by the accident.
