Camille Rast continues. A week after her 3rd place in the Gurgl slalom, the Valaisanne took 3rd place in the World Cup giant of Killington won by Sara Hector.
Amazing what confidence can do in an athlete's life. A week after securing the first podium of her career during the Gurgl slalom (3rd), the Valaisanne scored a second podium by signing the best result of her career in giant. The giant, the discipline which revealed the Vétroz skier in 2017 in Plan de Corones with a 9th place.
Fourth in the first round, Camille Rast was only beaten by Sara Hector and Zrinka Ljutic. The Swede, Olympic champion in Beijing, won her 6th career World Cup giant. The Scandinavian also took advantage of the fall of Mikaela Shiffrin, in the lead halfway through, and who missed her 100th victory by falling quite violently on her second pass.
For her first race of the season, Lara Gut-Behrami delivered a performance below her standards. Ninth at the end of the morning route, the Ticino rider did not find the right rhythm in the second round. She even made a mistake on the first course, which caused her to lose a lot of time. She finally failed in 13th place at 2”84.
Just in front of 'LGB' is Wendy Holdener. The Schwyzoise had not been so well classified as a giant since the Are race in March 2023 (also 12th).
The last two Swiss women qualified for the second round disappointed. Especially Michelle Gisin who never gave the impression of going fast, but rather the feeling of an athlete not really confident in the discipline. The Obwalden finished in 25th place. Simone Wild fared barely better with her 22nd place at 4”09.
