A “rusty shovel” price for poorly cleared cycle paths

Last week, the towns and municipalities of Valais experienced significant snowfall. Snow removal from streets and roads varied greatly from one municipality to another. But, as foehn was forecast, many felt that it would all melt away very quickly.

But that wasn’t quite the case. On Tuesday, the Valais association Pro Vélo decided to react against failures to clear snow from roads, but especially from cycle paths, which are sometimes even used to pile up snow.

The association has therefore launched a prize, where the worst municipality will receive the “rusty shovel” prize and the one who does best will receive the “golden shovel” prize. Pro Vélo expects users to send photos of their own experiences, good or bad. The prize will be awarded in the spring.

Hoping that, by then, a layer of it will fall down to the plain to be able to judge in the best, or worst, conditions.
