2024 Legislative Elections: “It is not Jean-Félix Acquaviva as such who is at stake”

In the second constituency of Haute-Corse, the results of the first round of the legislative elections placed François-Xavier Ceccoli (DVD) in the lead with 34.05% of the vote, followed by the outgoing deputy Jean-Félix Acquaviva (Femu a Corsica) with 28.63%, and Sylvie Jouart-Fernandez (RN) with 25.42% (11,275 votes) whose withdrawal for the second round was announced on Monday July 1.

This withdrawal was justified by François Filoni, territorial delegate of Jordan Bardella’s party, explaining that “The president of the executive came out of his reserve to say that he was going to block all RN candidates”François Filoni also confirmed the absence of contact with François-Xavier Ceccoli, the latter taking note of the RN’s decision.

Invited on France Bleu RCFM, this Tuesday July 2, Jean-Félix Acquaviva reacted to this withdrawal by emphasizing that this decision came from the national authorities of the RN, without consulting local voters. « It was not the voters who decided to cast their vote for François-Xavier Ceccoli »he said. He criticizes this vertical approach, adding that “It is a body, the local and Parisian National Rally, which decides to call for a vote for François-Xavier Ceccoli who accepts the support of this body”. And to add: “It is clear that theIt is widely believed that there will be a return to the National Assembly if Mr Ceccoli is elected. I recall that Mr Ceccoli said that he would sit in his political family, that is to say Les Républicains from which he has not resigned.” Jean-Félix Acquaviva, who warns against an implicit alliance and “a slide” between the Republicans and the RN, affirming that “Those who are keeping the Republican House of the party today – Mr. Bellamy or Mr. Lisnard – are already calling for a second round vote for RN candidates against other candidates”.

“It’s a new election on Sunday”

Asked about the potential impact of this transfer of votes, the outgoing MP Femu a Corsica is confident: “I think it’s a new election on Sunday. There is a political explosion that will have consequences beyond the election itself on the political terrain, sinceThey want to block what I represent as projects. It is not Jean-Félix Acquaviva as such who is at stake. This is the meaning of what is being carried out against legislative autonomy, against the official Corsican language, against the defense of the land against land and real estate speculation. ».

The support of Pascal Zagnoli of the PNC (Partitu di a Nazione Corsa) to Jean-Félix Acquaviva underlines the importance of a “rebuilding the national movement to avoid the programmed disappearance of Corsica and its people”. Jean-Félix Acquaviva accepts this support, stating that « national and patriotic convergence must be the subject of discussions and strategies with the progressive forces of the left and social right who refuse this subjugation of Corsica in the face of a national desire to install Jordan Bardella and obviously against everything that we have been able to carry to defend our land, our language and our culture. This is what is at stake today. The choice is very clear. And I call for the mobilization of all.”.
