In Lebanon, “the bombs are raining”. And yet, “against all logic – or rather because of another logic – Hezbollah and Israel seem very close to reaching an agreement” putting an end to the war which has opposed them for more than a year, and in a particularly violent manner for more than two months, writes the Lebanese daily The Orient-The Day.
In the last few hours, the signals are all pointing in this direction. Both parties “are very close to signing” an agreement, assures an Israeli official to the Israeli daily Ha’Aretz.
An agreement on a “truce […] for a period of sixty days” what could be announced today by the American president, Joe Biden, and the French president, Emmanuel Macron, the pan-Arab newspaper even believes it knows Asharq Al-Awsat.
This draft agreement would therefore provide for a cessation of hostilities for two months, “the deployment of the Lebanese army and the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL)” in southern Lebanon, “an international implementation committee [de cet accord] led by the United States and provisions allowing Israel to respond to threats and violations,” summary Ynetnews, the English-language site of the Israeli daily Yediot Aharonot.
