On the night of September 4 to 5, Mel Benzaït, 32, was killed by a bullet in the head during a poker game organized at his home on avenue Carnot in La Rochelle. After several months of investigation and the opening of an investigation, two men were arrested. They are suspected of being the perpetrators of this robbery which went wrong.
According to the public prosecutor of La Rochelle, Arnaud Laraize, the first turned himself in to the police station about two weeks ago. The second was arrested on Thursday November 21. These two men are from Rochelais.
The lure of gain
“They admitted their participation,” specifies the prosecutor. Their motive was greed. » Between 10,000 and 20,000 euros were recovered by the criminals during this clandestine poker evening where around forty players were present.
The two suspects had burst in in the middle of the night, hooded and armed, to demand the money before shots were fired. They were indicted for murder and criminal conspiracy, and placed in pre-trial detention.
