Following a fire in a gîte in Furdenheim (Bas-Rhin) on the night of Saturday November 23 to Sunday November 24, a 10-year-old child died this Monday November 25. She was taken to hospital in serious condition.

The family from Haute- came to spend the weekend in this Airbnb accommodation on the theme of Harry Potter in Furdenheim (Bas-Rhin), a town located 15km from .

But on Sunday, November 24, around 5 a.m., a fire broke out in the building. The parents and their three youngest daughters managed to escape by jumping out of a first-floor window, but their oldest daughter was trapped in the attic.

After an intervention by the firefighters, who managed to extricate her through a skylight from the roof, the little girl was declared in cardiorespiratory arrest before being resuscitated. In a coma, she was rushed to Hautepierre University Hospital.

The 10-year-old child died on Monday, November 25 in hospital, as a result of her injuries, Furdenheim town hall confirms.

In total, 19 people had to be evacuated from the burning house, which was divided into several apartments. Five of them were taken to hospital in minor emergencies. 77 firefighters were mobilized.

An investigation is underway, in particular to determine the presence of smoke detectors in the accommodation.

This is the second fatal fire in Alsace in a tourist lodge. As a reminder, in August 2023, eleven people died in Wintzenheim (Haut-Rhin) in a vacation rental for disabled people.
