The Pope Francis took a stand, at the start of this week, against the conflicts currently ravaging the planet. A rather rare outing, during which the head of the Vatican pointed the finger at both Israel and Russia, adding that these wars only had the aim of causing very painful tears.
Aged 88, Pope Francis recently spoke to point the finger at Russian action in Ukraine as well as the arrogance of Moscow. An arrogance that would also have Israel in his eyes, Palestine. An outing which comes a few days after initial criticism, the sovereign pontiff evoking, for the very first time, a genocide in the Gaza gangs.
Pope Francis speaks
The latter then criticized the arms trade. He notably highlighted the hypocrisy that this represents, with nations supplying, producing and selling weapons, while calling for peace. In front of diplomats and religious representatives, the Pope called for dialogue to take precedence over everything else, in order to find peaceful and lasting solutions.
Finally, the Pope Francis compared the situations in Ukraine and Palestine to two failures of Humanity, recalling that there, people were in great suffering. An outing which will not fail to provoke a reaction, from one side or the other, where the voice of the Pope necessarily remains listened to, this having a very particular importance. Not sure, however, that the Kremlin like theNetanyahu administration agree with what has been said.
Hundreds of thousands of deaths, on both grounds
As a reminder, the war in Ukraine started over 1,000 days ago now. In Palestine, the conflict began the day after the operations of October 7, led by Hamas. On both counts, hundreds of thousands of civilians, women, children and soldiers lost their lives during deadly clashes and bombings. Many people are also missing.
