Paul Cosentino died this Monday, 1is July, he was 81 years old.

Born in 1943 in Tunis, Paul Cosentino was the older brother of Aldo who passed away on October 8th. The Cosentino family had arrived in France in the 1950s and young Paul had joined José Jover’s Red Star Saint-Ouen in 1958.

Under the leadership of Gaëtan Micallef, Paul Cosentino quickly established himself as one of the best super-lightweights in France. He became French amateur champion in 1961, that same year, he reached the semi-finals of the European amateur championships held in Belgrade to return to France with the bronze medal around his neck. The following year, he won a second national amateur title before joining the professional ranks at the end of 1962 at the age of 19.

He had won a series of victories before experiencing a 1time defeat on points in his 9the fight. He then resumed his march forward by obtaining 10 victories and 3 draws including one with Roger Zami, future European champion of the category. In 1967, he lost to the experienced Aissa Hashas for the title of French super-lightweight champion. Beaten in the 12e After a 15-fight resumption, Paul Cosentino ended his professional career at the age of just 24.

The burial of Paul Cosentino will take place on Tuesday, July 9 at 3 p.m. at the Notre Dame du Rosaire church in Saint-Ouen 94400.
