This may seem crazy, and yet it is commonplace for NASA. In early November, the organization literally made clouds over Norway.

But nothing to do with chemtrail conspiracy theories. Here, the objective is clear: “to advance science”, as NASA, contacted by us, confirms.

“Not harmful to the environment”

To do this, NASA launches probes at high altitudes. Probes which are equipped with canisters of different chemical compounds, including Tri-methyl aluminum (TMA), which produces a type of luminescence in this “artificial vapor”, as the organization explains.

Chemical compounds which are, according to NASA, “absolutely harmless to the environment or life on earth”.

The vapors used as tracers are metals much more commonly used in common fireworks. Tracer materials, such as barium, lithium and aluminum compounds, are used to make fireworks colorful and to provide intense light shows. A typical tracer payload releases about a pound of material. A typical firework releases several times this amount and is much closer to the ground.

Furthermore, these false clouds are therefore created at altitudes between 80 and 400 kilometers. In comparison, commercial flights fly between 9 and 13 km above our heads.

Study movements

The idea behind the creation of these clouds is to understand certain movements in the upper atmosphere, where these vapors are released.

To put it simply, it’s like putting a little bit of dye in a stream to study the direction the current takes. Here, colored clouds move, and scientists can, because they are colorful, follow them precisely, and try to understand.

“Scientists seek to understand these movements because they represent fundamental knowledge of Earth’s near-space environment. The movement of neutral and ionized gases reveals how mass and energy are transported from one region to another. These movements also react to changes in solar activity,” says NASA.

All the more reason for these clouds not to impact the environment: “if the behavior of the areas studied changed because of this activity, it would have no value”, we note from the scientists.

Classic process

The process is regularly used. “NASA sounding rockets are launched around the world from permanent and remote launch bases, depending on the objective of the experiments on board,” confirms the organization.

It is possible to discover the launch sites and current and planned missions at this address. For the moment, “no launch is planned from, or above ”, specifies NASA.
