In a surprising turn, Andy Murray will take on the role of coach of Novak Djokovic as they prepare for theAustralian Open 2025.

A few months after announcing his retirement from professional tennis, the Scot, affectionately nicknamed Muzza, will join forces with his old rival in Melbourne for the first Grand Slam of the coming season.

The strategic move comes as Djokovic aims to clinch his 25th major singles title. The two players, who share a birthday weekhave a rich history of competitive encounters, with Murray famously claiming victory over Djokovic in the final of theUS Open 2012 and that of Wimbledon 2013.

This iconic victory at Wimbledon marked a historic moment, ending a 77-year drought for a British champion from the country.

Expressing his excitement, Djokovic said: “I am delighted to have one of my biggest rivals by my side as a coach. I can’t wait to start the season and compete in Australia alongside Andy , with whom I shared many memorable moments on Australian soil.”

Djokovic also shared a photo of the duo on Instagram, joking: “He never liked retirement anyway.”

Murray, who suffered hip resurfacing surgery in January 2019, extending his career, finally decided to retire after the Olympic Gameswhere he reached the quarter-finals of the men’s doubles with his compatriot Dan Evans.

As a father of four, Murray said: “I’m excited to join Novak’s team this offseason and help him prepare for the Australian Open. I looking forward to sharing the court with him for a change and contributing to his ambitions.”

The coaching project coincides with Murray’s announcement of an emotional theater tour next year. Titled ‘Centre Stage’the tour will include four performances in London and Scotland, where Murray will reflect on his distinguished career.

Hosted by the famous BBC sports presenter Andrew Cotterthe intimate show promises audiences an insight into the life of one of the UK’s most cherished sporting icons, with personal anecdotes and behind-the-scenes stories.

As a unique aspect of the tour, participants will be required to leave their phones at the door, enhancing the personal experience. Murray remarked: “After retiring this summer, I aspired to explore new avenues. I don’t think any tennis player has engaged in anything like this before, which presents a fascinating challenge for me. This It’s been a while since I’ve stepped on a tennis court, so I hope my fans enjoy this new experience.”

The tour will take place over four nights in June 2025, coinciding with the UK grass court season, starting in Murray’s birthplace of Glasgow and ending in New Wimbledon Theatre just before the Wimbledon Championships.
