When we love, we share. Obviously, RC Vannes and Union Bordeaux-Bègles both liked the game, this Saturday, November 23 at La Rabine. For the 10th day of Top 14, the two teams gave it their all and at equal intervals, the locals having largely dominated the first act. The visitors finally won (29-37) after a crazy second half.
RUGBY. Like Toulouse and the leaders of the Top 14, Vannes must manage the absence of international players
Vannes surprises the Top 14
Successively, the Bretons will score 4 tries and lead 29 to 0 in the 32nd minute of play. Rough in the contacts, RC Vannes sought to put a lot of intensity from the start of the meeting. Furthermore, the opening half Matthieu Jalibert suffered, leaving injured in the 10th minute.
To kick off hostilities, New Zealander Michael Ruru scored his team's first try (5th) with astonishing power. He puts Mahamadou Diaby and Pete Samu on the back burner. Then, Francis Saili signs a good race and takes the interval (13th) to double the lead.
TOP 14. Revanchard, Matthieu Jalibert gets injured from the start and worries the UBB
Less than 10 minutes later, RC Vannes once again invades the Gironde camp and sends the ball away, benefiting Paul Surano for a new try (19th). Finally, the Bretons' final test will be through former XV de la Rose Mako Vunipola (32nd). As a harbinger of the crazy recovery observed in the second half, Ben Tapuai comes to open the UBB counter before the breakwith a nice first-hand essay.
Then the UBB takes over
Back from the locker room, the Bordelo-Béglais have changed faces. “At halftime, we said to ourselves that we had to implement the game developed this week in training. With a strong wind today, we knew we had to hold the ball”, explains Yann Lesgourgues in particular after the end of the match at Canal+. The scrum half was right.
TOP 14. A bull for a bison: the UBB has found Tatafu’s replacement, and it’s (very) solid
Back from the locker room, UBB players appear much more dominant and add no less than 3 tries to their account in 15 minutes. The first to tackle it is Cyril Cazeaux (42nd), then Arthur Retière (46th) and the Girondins will benefit from a penalty try (56th), after a series of dangerous tackles from Francis Saili and Paul Surano. Shortly after the hour mark, Cyril Cazeaux scored a double, marking his team's big victory in stone.
Thanks to this victory, Union Bordeaux-Bègles remains the runner-up to Stade Toulousain in the Top 14 ranking, before welcoming the MHR on its lawn. RC Vannes is struggling at the bottom of the rankings. Next week, the challenge will be just as high for the Bretons, who will play in La Rochelle.
