On Saturday, June 29, early in the afternoon, a fire broke out in Acqua Doria, in the municipality of Coti-Chiavari. Four people were evacuated. Houses were affected by the flames. In total, nearly six hectares of vegetation went up in smoke. Reconnaissance will be carried out this Sunday.

The fire which broke out on Saturday June 29 around 2:30 p.m., at a place called Acqua Doria, in the commune of Coti-Chiavari, was recorded at the end of the day.

“The fire, fanned by a swirling wind of 60 to 70 kilometres per hour, quickly affected property: a bungalow was completely destroyed, two houses were partially damaged by the flames and a vehicle was burned, indicates the Corse-du-Sud fire and rescue service (Sis 2A). Four people had to be evacuated.”

Although no local residents were injured, one firefighter was injured.He was treated internally by our medical service, specifies Sis 2A. His health condition does not present any concern.”

Saturday afternoon, in the Acqua Doria sector, significant resources were quickly deployed: A dozen trucks from SIS 2A and around sixty firefighters from the Ajaccio, Pietrosella, Petreto, Rizzanesi and Ocana barracks fought the fire which was brought under control around 8 p.m.

The ground teams were supported by the Dash, the water bomber plane from the continent.

The fire, confined to a hilly area with significant but sparse vegetation, “was contained in an envelope of 10 hectares, with 5 to 6 hectares which burned”, specifies SIS 2A.

This Sunday morning, firefighters are still monitoring the area.

“We are going to carry out ground reconnaissance because there is a bit of wind in the area, indicates SIS 2A. The team in charge of the drone is also on site.”

The cause of the fire remains unclear at this time.
