New blow for C8. On July 24, the Regulatory Authority for Audiovisual and Digital Communication (Arcom) decided not to renew the DTT frequencies of C8 (just like those of NRJ12 and of And the Mediaeditor’s note). The group channel Canal+ is singled out for its repeated debts and fines, amounting to 7.6 million euros in eight years. Therefore, C8 will disappear on February 28, 2025.
The Council of State again rejects the appeal of C8
Determined not to stop there, C8 urgently contacted the Council of State in order to prevent its closure, as indicated in a press release. “C8 firmly opposes Arcom's decision (…) and has appealed to the Council of State for summary proceedings. Such a decision by Arcom is unprecedented in the history of TNT, since its creation in 2005.“The Council of State rejected this first request, considering that the emergency condition was not”not fulfilled“.
This Friday, November 22, the Council of State took a new decision in the conflict between C8 at Arcom, as reported byAFP. The highest French administrative court has ruled “inadmissible“action brought by the channel of the Canal+ group, justifying this by the fact that the request was”premature” because filed before the finalization of the procedure by Arcom. Note that this verdict also applies to NRJ12 et The Media. At the end of last July, Arcom ruled out the renewal of the DTT frequencies of the three channels.
