Christopher Nolan bets on Robert Pattinson
Big screen star Robert Pattinson joins Christopher Nolan’s next film project. He will be part of a star-studded cast that already includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya and Lupita Nyong’o. According to the The Hollywood ReporterPattinson, Damon, Hathaway and Holland will be the main protagonists of this film, while Nyong’o and Zendaya will play supporting roles.
This project, still mysterious, will mark Pattinson’s second collaboration with Nolan. He previously starred in Nolan’s 2020 film, Tenetplaying Neil alongside John David Washington’s Protagonist. Universal has set a mid-July release date for Nolan’s latest film, positioning it as one of the studio’s major pillars for this summer.
Possible consequences for The Batman 2
It is well known that Robert Pattinson is supposed to play a lead role in another highly anticipated 2026 film: The Batman 2directed by Matt Reeves. However, the The Hollywood Reporter noted in his report on Pattinson’s role in Nolan’s new film that “nothing is close to being planned” regarding the production schedule for The Batman 2. Which could imply a delay in the start of production of this second part.
Indeed, Pattinson’s participation in a new Nolan project could pose a problem for The Batman 2. It is unlikely that the actor would have agreed to star in Nolan’s project unless he had free time during the “first half of 2025”, the period targeted by the director to begin filming. Nolan’s productions generally span several months, as was the case for Tenet (from May to November 2019) and Oppenheimer (from February to May 2022).
Anticipation and uncertainty for The Batman 2
It is possible that The Batman 2 remains on track and begins production “in early 2025,” but the latest updates suggest otherwise. Not only does the DC Comics sequel lack a complete storyline, but its lead actor accepts another high-profile role. It is increasingly likely that The Batman 2 encounters further delays before it can start. However, this does not necessarily mean that its October 2026 release date will be pushed back. Pattinson could theoretically shoot Nolan’s film in the first half of next year, take a break, then focus on Batman in the second half of 2025.
