Murder of the municipal officer: a suspect questioned in Portugal

A man has been arrested in Portugal as part of the investigation into the murder of Lilian Dejeanmunicipal agent killed in on September 8. According to Éric Vaillant, Grenoble public prosecutor, the individual arrested could be the suspect sought in this case. The arrest took place thanks to a European arrest warrant issued by the Grenoble investigating judge.

This progress is the result of European police and judicial cooperation involving the judicial police departments (DCOS) of Grenoble and . The arrest warrant, issued on September 16, targeted a 25-year-old from Isère, known for a history of theft, violence and drug trafficking. The man was also involved in a violent attack on a fellow inmate at the Varces remand center in June 2023.

An investigation marked by a dramatic context

The affair shocked Grenoble. Lilian Dejean, aged 49, managed the city's urban cleanliness team. Much appreciated, he was father of two children. On the morning of September 8, he was fatally shot near the town hall, after an accident between a rental Audi RS3 and a Peugeot. The municipal agent, intervened to dialogue with the driver of the Audi, was targeted before the latter fled on foot.

A identity document in the name of the suspect had been found in the Audi, registered in Poland and involved in the accident. This discovery made it possible to restart the search, leading to the issuance of the arrest warrant to arrest the man in Portugal.

The death of Lilian Dejean had aroused strong emotion, with a white walk bringing together a thousand people a week after the tragedy. Today, his entourage and the inhabitants of Grenoble hope that this arrest will shed light on the exact circumstances of this tragic act.
