Age tends to no longer be a taboo. For many decades, women have had to juggle the horrors of sexism and ageism, being the subject of stereotypes conveyed by a patriarchal society. As they age, particularly as they approach menopause, women find themselves prey to the combination of these two discriminations, which tends towards a common representation that they have reached their expiration date, which corresponds to the end of their fertility.
Although anchored in society, this discrimination has evolved in recent years, notably thanks to MeToo which has kicked into the anthill of collective thought. According to a study conducted by the MGEN mutual fund and the Women’s Foundation, 66% of French men and women believe that men and women are not equal in the face of aging and are not treated in the same way at work and in society when They are getting older, compared to 50% who thought this in 2019. Faced with this growing awareness, we went to meet women to ask them what age means to them.
