Excellent news for Olympique Lyonnais, which could escape the sanctions pronounced against it by the DNCG.
Facing financial difficulties, Olympique Lyonnais could leave French Ligue 1 at the end of the season even if the club remained in the elite. The National Directorate of Management Control (DNCG) imposed on the Rhone club the control of its payroll and a ban on recruiting after a hearing on its financial situation as well as the “conservative demotion at the end of the current sporting season”.
A saving partnership for OL
While it carries a debt which amounts to more than 500 million euros, hence the DNCG sanctions, Olympique Lyonnais could now breathe a sigh of relief. This Thursday, the seven-time French champion club announces a new partnership with the manufacturer and distributor of DIY and gardening products, Stanley, for the current season. This will allow John Textor to improve the financial situation of the Rhone team, which was losing relegation to Ligue 2.
“STANLEY, emblematic brand of the StanleyBlack&Decker group and the world of tools worldwide, becomes the new official partner of Olympique Lyonnais (OL) for the 2024-2025 season. (…)This partnership demonstrates the ambition shared between STANLEY and Olympique Lyonnais to offer strong experiences to football fans in France. The visibility offered throughout the year by the Rhone club will allow the famous tool brand to share its values and, first and foremost, its sense of community. The content of the partnership is in line with its strong ambitions to increase its notoriety”indicated OL in an official press release.
