While Donald Trump delays making decisions on the war in Ukraine, NATO member countries continue their preparations in Finland in the face of the Russian nuclear threat.
This is NATO’s first military exercise since the election of Donald Trump. In Finnish Lapland, Caesar cannons French fire alongside US Army rocket launchers. Europe is preparing faced with the nuclear threat from Russia and fears of the decisions of the new American president who could withdraw aid. “I can’t predict the future, but the United States has been a founding member of NATO for 75 years and it can only continuer“, declares Major Nicholas Chopp, an officer with US Army Europe. Since the war in Ukraine, the Americans have significantly increased their presence on European soil.
While waiting for Trump’s first decisions, today, 3,600 soldiers are simulating war in Finland. The country which joined NATO in 2022 to protect the 1,300 km which separate it from Russia ensures the supply of these men.
