Two cardiac arrests 12 years apart at only 26 years old, this young woman from Gironde is linked to a firefighter who intervened to help her.
An improbable story. Juliette Moussier, 26, lives in Gironde. Despite her young age, the woman who became a physiotherapist suffered several cardiac arrests, and was treated 12 years apart, by the same firefighter. Since then, a real story has linked the young woman and the firefighter.
An internal defibrillator
It all began on October 17, 2012, when Juliette, then 14 years old, suffered a cardiac arrest at her school, Saint-André College in Bordeaux. After she fell to the ground, firefighters intervened to help her. Among the rescuers was Chief Warrant Officer Martial Malot.
“I remember this intervention because Juliette was very young, this is not common and it affects us a little more. I also remember it because the work was well done: between the cardiac massage of the nurse and our relay, she managed to have no after-effects”testifies the firefighter to our colleagues at Figaro.
After several weeks spent in the hospital, Juliette comes out with a “internal defibrillator which will take over from his heart in the event of failure”details daily life. The years pass and the young woman becomes a physiotherapist. If she had already been able to thank Chief Warrant Officer Martial Malot during her adolescence, she did not expect to see him again one day, and even less in these circumstances.
“Curious and improbable”
Through contacts, the firefighter visits his office weekly. On July 24, 2024, he waited for his appointment, but Juliette Moussier suffered a cardiac arrest again. “Suddenly, in that time, I had a cardiac arrest”says the young woman.
“Apart from doing the 18, taking her pulse, accompanying her to the ground and reassuring her, I didn't do much. Without her internal defibrillator, I wouldn't have been able to do anything. I knew that it wouldn't was not trivial and that she had already had heart problems”underlines the firefighter, who therefore intervened with Juliette twice, 12 years apart. A story that the two will not soon forget.
“I had two cardiac arrests and, twice, Martial was there to help me, obviously that ties in. It’s a disturbing and crazy coincidence”the 26-year-old young woman is still surprised. The firefighter still has a hard time believing it. “It’s still curious and improbable. I thought I had a better chance of winning the lottery than experiencing such a story”says Martial Malot.
