The Académie des lettres du Québec revealed the winners for 2024 of four prestigious literary prizes Tuesday evening in Montreal.

The Ringuet Prize for the best novel was awarded ex aequo to two authors. Audrée Wilhelmy was rewarded for Bloodskinthe “bloody, carnal and organic” story of a feather plucker who contributes to the emancipation of women, published by Leméac. The other winner, Louis-Daniel Godin, stood out for The account is good (La Peuplade), a work with autofictive overtones in which an adopted child wonders if he owes a debt to his adoptive parents.

Andrea Oberhuber won the Victor-Barbeau prize for the best essay for Work together. The feminine surrealist bookpublished by Presses de l’Université de Montréal. The publisher indicates that the work attempts to answer the following question: “What about an avant-garde feminine aesthetic, a community of authors and artists which was formed despite she thanks to the book, a meeting space and crucible for sharing? »

On the theater side, Olivier Choinière won the Marcel-Dubé prize thanks to The last tapea play presented at the Quat’Sous theater last year and whose text was published by Atelier 10. The work explores, among other things, the themes of old age and transmission by painting the portrait of the Quebec director André Brassard at the end of his life.

Finally, Vincent Lambert is the winner of the Alain-Grandbois poetry prize with The third from the sunpublished by Le Quartanier.

The winners received a $2,000 scholarship and a work by artist Serge Murphy. The Academy of Letters of Quebec was founded in 1944 and its mission is to promote the French language and culture.
