News — L’Étincelle — There were many people celebrating Remembrance Day in the region served by the newspaper Actualités — L’Étincelle. On this occasion, a few photos were captured.
Ceremonies took place in Windsor, Danville and Val-des-Sources. Richmond also highlighted the event.
Remembrance Day commemorates the armistice of November 11 which ended the First World War. It has been celebrated in Canada since 1919. And since 1931, this day has also been commemorated to remember the sacrifices of Canadians made during the conflicts in which the country was engaged.
Many then placed wreaths of flowers at the foot of the cenotaph in memory of those who died in combat. As tradition dictates, people placed their poppies on the structure.
“On November 11 of each year, Canadians observe a moment of silent contemplation, in tribute to the men and women who have served Canada and who continue to do so in times of war, conflict around the world, and in regarding the maintenance of peace. We remember the more than 2,300,000 people who served throughout our nation’s history and the more than 118,000 who made the ultimate sacrifice. We have the opportunity to remember the efforts of exceptional Canadians. On November 11, we wear the poppy, we keep two minutes of silence as a sign of tribute, and we can attend a commemoration ceremony in memory of Canadians who died in the war. », underlines Guy-Charles Amnotte, media liaison officer for Subsidiary 041.
