Nearly 48 hours after the fire which led to the death of a sixty-year-old woman in La Rouxière, a delegated commune of Loireauxence (Loire-Atlantique), the theory of a fire started by a hot water bottle is becoming clearer. In any case, this is confirmed by the findings made on site, Tuesday, November 19 in the morning, by the fire expert mandated by the Nantes public prosecutor’s office and by criminal identification technicians (TIC).
The microwaveable hot water bottle would have been “homemade” by an acquaintance of the victim. The fabric contained grains of wheat. According to our information, the investigation confirms that the overheating of the hot water bottle caused the wheat grains placed inside to burn. The hot water bottle was placed under the sheets of the bed, at the foot of the mattress on which the 69-year-old woman was sleeping. The autopsy carried out this Wednesday at the Nantes forensic institute concluded that he died as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning generated by the fumes.
The husband also injured
The victim’s companion, who was sleeping in a nearby room and had been awakened by the smell of smoke, came to his wife’s aid and managed to extract her from the house. But the cardiovascular resuscitation measures carried out on the sixty-year-old by firefighters and doctors from Smur (Mobile Emergency and Resuscitation Structure) were in vain. The husband, aged 71, was burned on the arms while trying to help his wife. He was hospitalized at the Ancenis hospital center.
The investigation continues. It is led by the Ancenis-Saint-Géréon brigade, assisted by the research brigade.
