The French Ambassador to Israel, Frédéric Journès, on Monday presented the insignia of knighthood in the Order of Academic Palms to three personalities who have worked to promote the French language and culture in Israel.
Among the recipients, Maha Abed stands out for her 45 years of dedication to teaching. Former director of the prestigious Collège des Frères de Jaffa, a historic establishment founded in 1882, she contributed to its development by obtaining, in particular, the approval of the French sector and the FrancEducation Label.
Francis Tvi Attali, academic inspector in communications, cinema and television at the Israeli Ministry of Education, is rewarded for his major role in promoting French cinema in the Israeli education system. Its action has enabled the broadcast of more than 80 French films to thousands of students, thus creating a lasting cultural bridge between the two countries.
The third winner, Guido Lieberman, a psychoanalyst of Argentinian origin, distinguished himself by his innovative research on the history of psychoanalysis and its applications to Israeli society. His work and his collaboration with the French Institute in Israel have contributed significantly to the dissemination of French thought in Israel. “You embody the human ties between our two nations,” underlined Ambassador Journès during the ceremony, recalling that the Academic Palms, created in 1808, honor those who contribute to the development of the intellectual, scientific and artistic influence of the France abroad.
