Morocco: prices of red meats could soon fall

Mohamed Jebli, president of the Moroccan Federation of Livestock Sector Stakeholders (FMAFE), assured that the prices of imported red meats have fallen recently, which should lead to a drop in the prices of sheep and beef in Morocco.

In a statement to Le Site info, the cost of imported beef does not exceed 80 dirhams per kilo and that of sheep meat 85 dirhams. “Imported meat, particularly from Spain, could help reduce the prices of red meat in Morocco, especially with the increase in imported quantities,” explains Jebli.

He added that meat prices have currently reached peaks: between 90 and 110 dirhams per kilo for beef and around 130 dirhams for sheep.

Recall that the Minister Delegate in charge of relations with Parliament, government spokesperson, Mustapha Baitas, announced that 20,000 tonnes of imported meat will be introduced into the Moroccan market before the end of this year.

At the same time, many voices have been raised to criticize the continued recourse to imports, believing that this measure has not produced any concrete results given that prices continue to increase.
