Israel threatens “to return Lebanon to the Stone Age in the event of war with Hezbollah”, a statement which reflects an escalation between the two countries. Behind the scenes, the United States, France and Germany are scrambling to achieve a ceasefire. The diplomatic solution remains on the table, a French diplomat assures us. Except that for the moment Hezbollah is not ready to make any concessions as long as the war in Gaza continues. And in Israel, the far right continues to call for war and to occupy southern Lebanon.
