Israel threatens “to return Lebanon to the Stone Age in the event of war with Hezbollah”, a statement which reflects an escalation between the two countries. Since October 7, exchanges of rocket fire are almost daily at the border. But this time, more than ever, tensions are being taken very seriously by the international community.

In recent days, several countries have asked their nationals to leave Lebanon while there is still time, including Canada, Germany and the Netherlands. For the moment, the 20,000 French people living in Lebanon are not concerned but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs asks the French not to go to Lebanon and those who live there not to go to the south of the country.

On Wednesday, the UN warned that a war between Israel and Lebanon would plunge the entire region into a “potentially apocalyptic” situation. Behind the scenes, the United States, France and Germany are scrambling to achieve a ceasefire. The diplomatic solution remains on the table, a French diplomat assures us. Except that for the moment Hezbollah is not ready to make any concessions as long as the war in Gaza continues. And in Israel, the far right continues to call for war and to occupy southern Lebanon.
