A serious security flaw has been discovered on most Apple devices, but an update is already available to correct all this.
It's not just Android that has the right to its little cyber scares. As noted The Hacker NewsApple mobile devices and computers are currently vulnerable to two serious security vulnerabilities that allow remote code execution. As is often the case, it's time to hit the update button to protect yourself.
Discovered by cybersecurity specialists at Google, the flaws are found, one in the JavaScriptCore development infrastructure and the other in Safari's WebKit rendering engine. Taken together, these two flaws make it possible to take remote control of a machine with a high degree of privilege.
Actively exploited on Intel Macs
Never very verbose about security flaws, Apple simply specified “have become aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited on Intel-based Mac systems. »
Be careful though, if Apple explains that the flaw was actively exploited on Intel Macs, that does not necessarily mean that all other machines are safe. The bug affecting, among other things, the Safari rendering engine, it cannot be ruled out that iPhones, iPads and Macs running Apple Silicon are also vulnerable, but that no proof of use of the flaw has been found .
To be careful, the brand has therefore deployed updates on all its systems. iPhones and iPads are entitled to versions 18.1.1 of their OS (or 17.7.2 in certain cases), while macOS now sports the number 15.1.1. Even visionOS is entitled to its small update to 2.1.1, just like Safari with version 18.1.1.
On iOS and iPadOS, the update process involves going to the “ Settings ”, then in the “ General » and in the menu « Software update “. The new version of the system should then be offered to you.
On macOS, click the apple menu then choose “System Settings“. Finally click on “General“, Then “Software update“. Once the image is installed, all you have to do is restart to be protected.
