President Bassirou Diomaye Faye announced a ministerial reshuffle in response to the publication of the official results of the legislative elections, where the ruling party obtained 130 seats. This decision coincides with the installation of the new National Assembly, chaired since December 2 by Malick Ndiaye.

From the presidential palace, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko confirmed this Tuesday, December 3, 2024 that the reshuffle will not affect the number of ministers, but will introduce strategic adjustments. He presented the new government as focused on “solutions, achievements and results”.

A decree signed by the president specifies the main changes. Malick Ndiaye, elected President of the National Assembly, and Yankhoba Diémé, Minister of Labor, Employment and Relations with Institutions, are leaving their respective positions. From now on, Yankhoba Diémé takes charge of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Land and Air Transport, previously headed by Malick Ndiaye. Abass Fall, for his part, is appointed Minister of Labor, Employment and Relations with Institutions.

Ministerial changes:

  1. Yankhoba Diémé :
    • Former position: Minister of Labor, Employment and Relations with Institutions.
    • New position: Minister of Infrastructure, Land and Air Transport.
  2. Malick Ndiaye :

    • New role: President of the National Assembly.
  3. Abass Fall :
    • New position: Minister of Labor, Employment and Relations with Institutions (replaces Yankhoba Diémé).
Elected deputy, he is replaced in the National Assembly by his substitute, Thierno Ali Sy.

Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko described these adjustments as “small changes”. Furthermore, he announced the exceptional holding of the Council of Ministers this Tuesday, due to an official trip abroad by the Head of State planned for Wednesday.
