Forest fires: coordinated actors for an effective fight!

Thursday June 27, the SDIS firefighters launched their campaign to prevent forest and natural area fires from the Bourray pond in Parigné-le-Pôlin, in the presence of Dominique Le Mèner, President of the Departmental Council and the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service of Sarthe. Made up of heath and numerous conifers, the vegetation found in this area dotted with homes is particularly sensitive to fire outbreaks.

In this symbolic place of the problems of Sarthe, the most wooded department of Pays de la Loire, the SDIS firefighters carried out demonstration maneuvers, in order to demonstrate the tools at their disposal in the event of a fire. For the upcoming summer, their high-performance vehicles will be on the ground in the event of vegetation fires, such as the Super Capacity Tank Trucks (CCFS) with their supply pool. They can benefit from support:

  • ONF surveillance and intervention patrol (PSI) vehicles,
  • agricultural vehicles powered by water,
  • of the helicopter.

These last years, Sarthe has developed innovative devices to fight against forest fires, which earned it an award in 2023 from the Journal des Départements, for its video detection system for fire outbreaks! Operational since April 2021, it is an effective tool for acting with precision and at the first signs of smoke for the entire Sarthe forest massif.
