WASHINGTON – US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said the problem of looting of convoys carrying humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip cannot be fully resolved until new governance and A new security authority, to be placed under Palestinian leadership, will not replace Hamas.
While the United States and the international community favor the idea of the Palestinian Authority (PA) playing this role, the idea has been roundly rejected by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has often equated the PA to Hamas.
Netanyahu said earlier this week that he had asked the Israeli military to find new solutions to ensure the safe distribution of aid to civilians – but Israeli officials told the Times of Israelover the past twelve months, that the security services also believed that the PA was the only viable alternative to Hamas remaining in power in the Gaza Strip.

At a news conference, Miller criticized the repeated looting of aid convoys, saying perpetrators are diverting aid away from civilians who desperately need it.
The United States is working with Israel to try to find interim solutions to the looting that has intensified as the IDF has gradually reduced Hamas’ military presence in Gaza, notably undermining the terrorist group’s ability to maintain security and order. public, commented the State Department spokesperson.
At the request of the United States, Israel has opened new routes to deliver aid inside the Strip – aiming to avoid routes that are targeted by looters. However, new looting reportedly took place on one of these new routes.

“Ultimately, this problem will not be resolved without the end of the war and the establishment of a new governance and security authority inside Gaza,” said Miller, who added that the The United States strongly opposed Israel becoming the occupying power in Gaza.
