Initially a simple video game, Minecraft has established itself as an intergenerational license and available on multiple media. But the franchise does not intend to stop there and plans to extend the Minecraft experience in two block-rich theme parks.
Minecraft theme parks planned for UK and US
In line with projects like Super Nintendo World or the Pokémon zone added in the years to come at Universal Studios park in Osaka, Mojang joins the list of games transposed into theme parks. In partnership with Merlin Entertainments, the studio is working to create 2 amusement parks focused on Steve’s world. These should see the light of day in the United States and the United Kingdom. But the precise locations are not yet known.
The choice of Merlin Entertainments is not insignificant. Recognized in the world of entertainment, the second largest leisure group in the world has created institutions such as Legoland, the Alton Towers amusement park and Madame Tussauds (British equivalent of the Grévin Museum). If construction of the 2 parks will not officially begin until 2026the company shared concept art giving a glimpse of this cubic universe.
In total, the group wants to invest $110 million in the two projects. But to provide the most authentic experience possible for visitors, Merlin Entertainments will actively work with Mojang to create a universe faithful to the game, but also interactive experiences allowing you to unlock new content in Minecraft games.
At this time, it is impossible to know what attractions these parks will have, what it will be possible to see or do. But Merlin Entertainments said the parks would include “ the development of never-before-seen concepts, unique visitor accommodations, gaming-inspired retail, food and beverage, and exciting experiences including Minecraft-themed attractions at each of these sites ».
