Bryan Zaragoza celebrates for Spain and attacks Thomas Tuchel

Bryan Zaragoza was ignored by Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich – and he is now lashing out at his former manager.

Munich – Currently on loan from German champions CA Osasuna, Bryan Zaragoza made a significant impact when he came on as a substitute in the Nations League match between Spain and Switzerland in Tenerife, entering the field in the 69th minute. He immediately injected energy into a lethargic Spanish attack and brilliantly won a penalty in added time when the score was 2-2. Ignoring the unspoken rule that the offending player must never take the penalty himself, he calmly converted to give a 3-2 victory.

After the match, the 23-year-old made a scathing dig at his former Bayern coach, Thomas Tuchel: “ is played with feet, not words.”

The future England national team coach had previously deemed Zaragoza too much during his tenure at Bayern, attributing his decision to language barriers. Tuchel even expanded on this point during a press conference ahead of the Champions League semi-final second leg against Real Madrid.

“It was a very big step for him. He is now in a Champions League team. I also fought for him with our sporting director. We weren’t getting the best results, he didn’t speak the language. His English is bad, and he doesn’t speak German either,” Tuchel said of his former player six months ago, inflicting humiliation on Zaragoza.

Zaragoza returned to Spain during the last summer transfer window, with Bayern loaning him to CA Osasuna for a year without an option to buy. Since then, the 23-year-old has truly flourished, contributing to six direct goal involvements in 13 LaLiga matches, including a stunning goal against league leaders FC Barcelona after “one of the best dribbles in the ‘history of the league’.
