(Washington) Senators from the American left called on Tuesday the Biden administration to stop sending weapons to Israel, accusing it of being “complicit” in “atrocities” in Gaza.

“What is happening in Gaza is unspeakable,” denounced Senator Bernie Sanders during a press conference, referring to the death of tens of thousands of civilians in the Palestinian territory, the destruction of buildings and the “blockade by Israel desperately needed humanitarian aid.
“But what makes the situation even more painful is that most of what is happening there is done with American weapons and with the support of American taxpayers,” he lamented.
Alongside a handful of elected Democrats, the socialist senator presented several resolutions condemning American aid to Israel, which will be put to a vote on Wednesday.
“The United States is complicit in these atrocities. This complicity must end and that is what these resolutions are about,” said Bernie Sanders.
These texts should, unless surprisingly, fail to be adopted, with a large number of elected representatives in Congress displaying unwavering support for Israel, a historic ally of the United States.

Israeli operations in the Palestinian territory have left 43,972 dead, mostly civilians, according to the latest Hamas report released on Tuesday.
They intervene in retaliation for the massacre in Israel of 1,206 people committed by commandos of the Islamist movement on October 7, 2023, the majority civilians, according to an AFP count based on official figures.
