On the occasion of 1000e day of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukrainethe Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe has adopted the following declaration :
“For 1000 days, Russia has been waging a war of aggression against Ukraine in flagrant violation of international law, including the Charter of the United Nations and the Statute of the Council of Europe.
For 1000 days, the Ukrainian people have endured immense suffering; thousands of Ukrainian children were illegally deported, thousands of innocent civilians were killed or injured, and millions more were forced to flee their homes, being temporarily displaced within Ukraine and seeking refuge in Europe.
For 1000 days, we have admired the resilience and courage shown by the Ukrainian people in the defense of their country and for the benefit of all those who believe in the values of democracy, human rights and the State of right.
For 1000 days, we at the Council of Europe have provided multifaceted support to Ukraine to help it cope with the dramatic consequences of Russia’s war of aggression.
Today, we remain committed to supporting Ukraine in its fight for freedom, democracy, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders and we will continue to work with our international partners to ensure the reconstruction and recovery of the country as well as to hold Russia accountable for its crimes and to guarantee a just and lasting peace in Ukraine. »
