The 22-year-old young man seriously injured on Sunday during a fall on a scooter, after refusing priority to a police car which then asked him to stop between Gennevilliers and Asnières-sur-Seine, died Monday June 24 afternoon, the Nanterre prosecutor’s office said on Wednesday.
Two investigations were opened, one for refusal to comply entrusted to the Hauts-de-Seine Territorial Security, the other for involuntary injuries by a vehicle driver, entrusted to the IGPN, the police force, added the prosecution, requested by the AFP.
The police version confirmed
The first elements of the investigations, in particular the use of surveillance cameras, “have enabled us to confirm the police’s version”: they stopped following the scooter “on the orders of their superiors” before the accident, the same source said.
The Hauts-de-Seine prefecture told AFP on Sunday that around 5:00 a.m., “a young person on a scooter without a helmet refused priority to a police vehicle, which followed him before stopping very quickly to follow it” along an avenue separating Gennevilliers and Asnières-sur-Seine, northwest of Paris.
The police then lost sight of the two-wheeler, found a few minutes later “down below on a railway track, apparently after what would have been a collision between the scooter and a metal barrier”, detailed the prefecture . Arriving on the scene, “the police came to his aid and immediately alerted the firefighters,” said the public prosecutor.
According to the prosecution, “the results of the blood tests carried out on the scooter driver also proved positive for alcohol and cannabis”.
