Between two teams undefeated at kick-off, the game promised to be fierce. If the Caudecostois opened the score (0-3, 9th) and occupied the opposing territory, it was completely different as soon as the Landais found themselves well in their game. “We missed the point,” explains Jérôme Caunes, the coach of the Caudecostois forwards. “Gabarret has a very good team in all its lines, especially at the back,” adds the AOCB mentor. “We exploded in mid-flight. Everything succeeded on one side, and nothing on the other and, on top of that, a lot of mistakes not worthy of our pretensions,” laments the former left-hander. “We had some great sequences in the first half that we didn’t realize, but we took killer counterattacks from the back of the field. They have a pair of extraordinary and formidable centers to whom we shouldn’t have given dropped balls Besides, they have an iron defense and we got beaten up.”
Difficult to exist for the Brulhois players. Anthony Mardel’s teammates went from being ranked last in the group to leading the group in eight days. The splits were feared. “We didn’t know how to play them and they dominated us head and shoulders,” concedes Caunes. “In front, we were able to match the game but without getting close to the lines. Every time we moved the ball away, we were costly. We really missed the point.”
The AOCB will have to completely review its copy this week. The group should recover players to strengthen their squad in order to receive a solid Biganos next Sunday.
