Among all the couples and relationships in the “House of the Dragon” series, fans have favorites. But there is an unexpected duo that stands out for the lovesick public.
After two years of waiting, season 2 of House of the Dragon is finally broadcast on your screens. Fans have happily resumed their weekly viewing of the Game of Thrones spin-off series as bloody and epic as ever.
As a reminder, this adaptation of the novel Fire and Blood by George RR Martin is a prequel series focusing on the tragic story of tensions, betrayals, jealousies and complex alliances of the Targaryen family, nearly 200 years before the events of Game Of Thrones.
If the second season of House of the Dragon finally gets to the heart of the matter by starting the famous “Dance of the Dragons”, a bloody war over several years which devastated the Targaryen Empire, it still benefits from a few breaths with comic moments and even more romantic moments, notably between Corlys (Steve Toussaint) and Rhaenys (Eve Best).

Corlys and Rhaenys, a dream couple
For Steve Toussaint, “It’s a good thing in this world of strategic and political movements, that there is only one couple who really love being with each other”. The actor explained on AlloCiné’s microphone that it is “a rare commodity” in the world of Game of Thrones and this couple “touches the hearts of the public”.
It’s an understatement to say that fans love this couple, far from the violence and perversity of other problematic duos. Corlys and Rhaenys love each other with a sincere and true love, have no family ties (!), and do not engage in vicious games and violent power struggles. Communication is the key to their relationship.
And not to spoil anything, the undeniable alchemy between the two performers, Steve Toussaint and Eve Best, further fuels the tenderness that fans have for this couple. To the point that the House of the Dragon audience makes numerous edits and montages on social networks, as evidenced by the TikToks below.
Besides this healthy and loving relationship, Corlys and Rhaenys are also very strong and inspiring characters. Eve Best believes that“they rock cool people and they’re badass”. On Rhaenyra’s side, the couple is indeed a significant asset in the war that is coming in the series because of their combat abilities and their strong personalities.
But like all couples, they also face difficulties and trials, such as the loss of their children, and a separation due to the war. But the strength of their duo allows them to face everything, as Eve Best explains:
“Everything was bearable because in reality, they faced everything as a couple, even massive disagreements over the treatment of their children. But we were still a team and we felt connected by an umbilical bond.
And I think what’s been difficult for her in this season is feeling that on the surface everything is fine, and we’re still a couple, and we’re still doing everything together, but underneath there are still things to sort out and repair.”
Readers of George RR Martin’s novel know well that the characters of House of the Dragon will still have many trials and battles to face in the future. And Corlys and Rhaenys will not escape it.
