An email with no subject, received in Julien Odoul's professional mailbox, pushed the Rassemblement National de l'Yonne deputy to file a complaint this Monday, November 18, 2024. This message, received three days earlier, was a direct death threat to against him.
“I'm going to kill you, son of a bitch, I found your address, a 15-year-old boy who I paid 25,000 euros will shoot you in front of the Assembly or at your house, you dirty pig, your days are clearly numbered, I swear “ (sic). Here is what Julien Odoul received on Friday November 15 in his mailbox.
“I had already received threats as an elected official. But most of them were on social networks, on Facebook… This is the first time that I have had them in my mailbox from National Assembly, especially since [cette lettre] is very violent”confides Julien Odoul as he leaves the Sens police station (Yonne).
In front of the police, the RN deputy wanted to file a complaint. “It’s important to take these very specific threats seriously”he continues, two days after sharing the threatening message on X (formerly Twitter). “There must be awareness of what is happening. This unbridled violence against elected officials must really be taken seriously.”
It's not playing to scare each other

For the MP, these words can quickly turn into actions. “It can take the form of physical attacks, or even assassination attempts. It’s not trying to scare people! But I’m not alone anymore. I have a family with an 18-month-old child.”he adds.
Under his post X, Julien Odoul had also questioned the Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau. The Icaunais deputy indicates that his appeal was heard, Bauveau having called him to indicate the vigilance measures to adopt after these threats.
As the investigation begins, Julien Odoul hopes that his complaint will slow down those who intend to threaten elected officials again. “The violence is completely unbridled. We have people who, under cover of anonymity, seek to threaten on the basis of political differences, or not for that matter! And no political difference justifies these actions”he says.
“We have to react, because it can happen to anyone”concludes the deputy. A reference undoubtedly to his colleague Guillaume Bigot, RN deputy for the Territoire de Belfort, also targeted by death threats in recent days.
RN deputy for Yonne since 2022, Julien Odoul was re-elected in the first round in the last early legislative elections. He has been a municipal councilor in the city of Sens since 2020, a regional councilor since 2016, and is also spokesperson for the National Rally.
Julien Odoul is currently involved in the affair of the RN's European parliamentary assistants. The prosecution requested a 10-month suspended prison sentence against him, a fine of 20,000 euros and one year of ineligibility with provisional execution.
