The inscriptions began on Communist Party posters during the European campaign, in Estagel.

The section of the Estagel Communist Party filed a complaint, and legal proceedings were launched by the gendarmes of the Pyrénées-Orientales: while the electoral campaign for the Europeans was taking place, PCF posters were tagged with malicious inscriptions, even threatening: “Death to the Reds”, “Death to the Communists” or even “Rendez-vous en 1 VS 1”.

It was around twenty days ago, and the posters were removed by municipal services. Other party posters were in turn tagged, this time with swastikas.

And more recently, it is a poster of the New Popular Front candidate for the second constituency; David Berrué, who was the subject of malicious inscriptions, with a target drawn on his face and an insult. “These inscriptions were made on the posters which are at the entrance to Estagel when you arrive from Maury, and near the level crossing towards Tautavel. It is true that this creates a somewhat worrying climate”explains a resident of the area.

When contacted, the mayor of Estagel, Roger Ferrer, indicated that he had been informed of the first registrations, but was not aware of the most recent ones: “It’s true that I find it deeply unpleasant, but it must also be said that the posters of all parties are regularly tagged”he tempers.
