At the end of February, the Cité scolaire Maurive Ravel was shaken by this news item testifying to the problems linked to the application of the rules of secularism in schools.
JUSTICE – “It does not seem acceptable to me today that fear is on the side of teachers”. Before the Paris judicial court this Monday, November 18, one of the authors of the death threats against Philippe Le Guillou, principal of the Maurice Ravel school complex in Paris, was found guilty of public provocation without effect to commit a willful harm to life.
The defendant was therefore sentenced to a sixty-day fine of 10 euros each as well as a five-day citizenship course to be completed within six months, as indicated Le Figaro. But seen “ that this is an isolated fact and with regard to his professional integration”the court decided that this conviction would not be mentioned on his criminal record.
As a reminder, this young man aged 27 had participated in the wave of messages posted on X at the end of February against this Parisian principal. Consequence of an altercation between the head of the establishment and an adult student refusing to remove her veil within the school premises. “It’s crazy. You have to burn him alive, this dog », The accused then wrote “out of anger”after his sister told him what happened at school.
Another sentence expected
This Monday, the twenty-year-old was also ordered to pay 3,000 euros in damages to the principal. He must also pay a symbolic euro to the management staff union (Snpden), which had become a civil party in this case.
A one-year suspended prison sentence was requested against him on October 2, during a hearing where he said he deeply regretted his words and asked for forgiveness. “ I wrote without thinking, without thinking about the consequences it could have, for the principal, his loved ones and his family », he said in a sheepish voice at the stand.
Targeted on social networks and victims of violent threats the day after the altercation, Philippe Le Guillou quickly left his post. An early retirement, which he had explained by “security reasons”. In court, he also returned to this period, saying that he had “not never experienced something so traumatic ».
For her part, the adult student involved in the altercation had filed a complaint for violence. But this complaint against the former principal of the Maurice-Ravel high school was dismissed at the end of March, for “insufficiently characterized offense”. And in the context of this case, a first man was tried and acquitted by the courts, even if the prosecution has already appealed. A third man is also due to stand trial this month for similar threats against the now-retired principal.
