The China-Russia Eastern Gas Pipeline project is ready. This important energy channel for the country has been completed and is entering the final preparation phase before going into production. The China-Russia Eastern Gas Pipeline stretches 5,111 kilometers and will be able to supply 38 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year to several Chinese regions.

Once fully operational, the China-Russia gas pipeline, nicknamed “Siberian Force”, will be able to meet the annual gas needs of 130 million urban households in China’s northeastern regions.

By supplying natural gas, a cleaner energy source than coal, it is expected, once at full capacity, to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 162 million tonnes and sulfur dioxide emissions by 1.82 million tonnes each year .
Essential source of income for Moscow
It is a strengthening of the growing strategic partnership between Beijing and Moscow in the energy field. For China, it allows it to diversify its energy imports, thus reducing its dependence on the Middle East and maritime routes, vulnerable to geopolitical tensions such as in the Strait of Malacca.
Finally, for Beijing, which still depends heavily on coal, this project is part of its climate objectives, aiming for a peak in carbon emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060.
