“Capitulation” of Hezbollah is not on the agenda

For the war to stop, Hezbollah must “capitulate”, say the Israeli authorities. Which seems unlikely to be feasible today. The image above with the Hezbollah flag overlooking the field of ruins caused by the incessant Israeli strikes reflects the state of mind of the Shiite movement.

This is what the new Israeli Minister of Defense, Israel Katz, said on Monday, according to comments relayed by AFP, during his very first meeting with the Chief of Staff since taking office.

This maximalist position of the Israeli “bulldozer”, who succeeded Yoav Gallant, write our colleagues from the Orient le Jour, shows that Tel Aviv is more determined than ever to achieve its objectives on the Lebanese scene after the election of Donald Trump to the American presidency. Especially since the term “capitulation”, generally used in the context of wars between states, is loaded with meaning and suggests a long conflict. Because despite the significant losses it has suffered, the Shiite party (and behind it Iran) seems far from wanting to wave the white flag.
