Real estate speculation was in the crosshairs of the Core in Fronte and Nazione independence movements this Saturday, November 16. They gathered to alert public opinion and express their fears about this problem which, according to them, would prevent Corsicans from being able to find housing.

One, Core in Fronte, held a press conference on land in Coti Chjavari where a house is on sale for more than 800,000 euros. The other, Nazione, for his part chose the Sanguinaires route, which we talk about a lot when it comes to controversy surrounding urbanization.
The two nationalist parties met this weekend in Ajaccio to warn about the “real estate speculation that Corsica is undergoing“. For its new field action, the Core in Fronte group has therefore chosen to make itself heard in the hamlet of Coti Chjavari, opposite a villa of modest dimensions, whose terrace overlooks the sea and the maquis and which is sold at 840,000 euros. A sum, strongly criticized.
“There are two types of societies that clash: Corsican society, which we want to evolve, and the French model, which categorically mocks what Corsica represents, which enters into a purely financial logic, of speculation“, says Olivier Sauli, spokesperson for the Core in Fronte independence movement.
The house, singled out by the demonstrators, would be put up for sale at more than double its purchase price, according to members of Core in Fronte. “Today, we are almost at a point of no return, but if the institutions take their responsibilities, we have enough ideas to develop the country to do what needs to be done at home: remain a welcoming and valid people.“, explains Louis Antona, resident of the hamlet and member of Core in Fronte.
Land dispossession stigmatized on the emblematic South Bank: this is the same theme addressed at the same time, on the other side of the Gulf, by activists of the Nazione independence movement. To carry out their action, they chose to enter the old hotel on the Route des Sanguinaires.
“We are in an old hotel which had an economic activity and which was bought by a company outside Corsica based in Paris. It was sold piecemeal, mainly outside Corsica, at prices which do not allow the Corsicans to position themselves“, warns Petru Antò Tomasi, the spokesperson for Nation.
“According to INSEE figures, we can estimate that today, approximately 18% of second homes in Corsica belong to Corsicans, therefore 82% which belong to non-Corsicans, French and others.“, added Jean-Philippe Antolini, spokesman for the Nation movement.
According to members of Nazione, the price per m2 of the accommodation which makes up the former Hôtel des Sanguinaires is more than 6,000 euros on certain sales, which represents 300,000 euros for a 45m2 accommodation.
“CAccommodations today belong to foreigners in Corsica, which are rented for a week or short term on Airbnb type platforms“, denounces Petru Antò Tomasi, who expects strong political measures in the future.
