Chariot Limited, an Africa-focused transitional energy group, recently entered into an agreement with Vivo Energy for the future commercialization of natural gas from the Loukkos Onshore license in Morocco. Chariot holds 75% of this license, with the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) owning the remaining 25%. Their agreement aims to structure the next steps to supply domestic gas and establish a midstream partnership for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to meet the energy demand of the fast-growing Moroccan industry.
Chariot’s first drilling campaign on the Loukkos license has just been completed, and testing operations for the OBA-1 well are currently being planned. Loukkos also has unexploited gas resources at other sites, offering additional production potential. Drilling data and recent seismic analyzes are being integrated to evaluate these resources.
Vivo Energy, leader in the Moroccan petroleum products market with more than 400 service stations, is committed to designing, financing, building and operating a CNG plant as well as a distribution network to transport the gas to industrial customers. Chariot plans to sell up to 3 million cubic feet of gas per day to this dedicated entity.
Pierre Raillard, Managing Director of Chariot Maroc, welcomes this collaboration, saying that it will enable rapid commercialization of Loukkos production and support the development of the infrastructure necessary for CNG. Matthias de Larminat, Managing Director of Vivo Energy Morocco, completes his remarks by declaring that this project is part of the country’s decarbonization ambition, meeting the needs of Moroccan industrialists.
