A golden lobster adopted by a family from the island of Ouessant will be studied in the United States

“A golden lobster is a blue lobster like we know here on the Breton coasts, with a small genetic difference. My companion was lucky to catch one last August 5 at the tip of Pern, off the coast of Ouessant, since it is believed that there is one in thirty million lobsters. There are also electric blue lobsters and albino lobsters which are called ghost lobsters, but the golden lobster. is the rarest and it's the one we caught” explains Ondine Morin, Ouessantine, who returned to live on the island several years ago.

Sacha, 5 years old, got attached to it

“We immediately saw that the other lobsters were jumping on him. So, we pampered him, with a swimming pool of 600 liters of water. We gave him something to eat. We have two children aged 15 months and 5 years old. . The 5-year-old, Sacha, got attached to it, calling it his golden lobster! However, the family did some research and decided to entrust the precious crustacean to the Trégastel aquarium in Côtes-d'Armor for a molt under supervision. “Moulting must take place this winter. Its shell will be shipped to the United States, to Maine, to a professor who works precisely on these lobsters. The question is whether there are more of them with global warming.”

After molting, the golden lobster will be transported to Audierne, to the aquarium, where Sacha and his family will be able to see it again. “Not too long.” hopes Ondine.
