The trajectory of bitcoin is fascinating. Cryptocurrency has reached new heights in the wake of Donald Trump’s re-election as President of the United States. Its price briefly exceeded $93,000 during the past week, approximately $20,000 more than the previous record from March 2024. This surge is not only due to the Republican’s return to the Oval Office. The year 2024 constitutes a major milestone in the institutionalization of bitcoin in the international financial system.

The authorization in January of a new financial instrument (a spot index fund) based on bitcoin by the American market watchdog has a lot to do with it. This tool allows institutional players to invest in cryptocurrency without having to go through specialized platforms or hold it themselves, with the risks that this entails. The success is such that the product launched by the American giant BlackRock surpassed on November 8, in terms of assets under management, that based on gold… which has existed since 2005.
