Celebration of Olympic Day at Lycée Alexandre Yersin

Olympic and Paralympism Day, June 22 in Hanoi.

Sports fans in Hanoi were invited to participate in the celebration of Olympic and Paralympism Day at the Lycée français Alexandre Yersin in Long Bien district.

Ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Lycée Alexandre Yersin Parents’ Association, the Lycée Français Alexandre Yersin, the French Embassy in Vietnam and the Vietnam National Olympic Committee co-organized this event to promote Olympic values as well as to strengthen cooperation between France and Vietnam in the sporting field.

The Day included various activities. It began with a parade and the appearance of the Olympic flame awarded by the National Olympic Committee of Vietnam, with a tour of the delegations and was a significant and emblematic moment of the Day.

The official ceremony continued with a speech by the French Ambassador to Vietnam, Olivier Brochet.

One of the highlight activities of the Day was the inauguration of a fresco on the route of the Olympic flame, from Athens in ancient Greece to Paris in France, with notable moments including its arrival in Marseille on the Belem boat. This work also highlights Vietnamese athletes qualified for the next Paris Olympic Games in boxing, rowing, shooting, cycling and badminton.

The celebration continued with presentations and performances of around twenty Olympic sports, by specialists and sports fans. Participants were able to try out the sports on offer and collect points in their “passSport”, a souvenir item from the celebration. It was also an opportunity for them to discover Paralympic sports such as blind football, basketball for the blind/visually impaired or even blind running with a guide.

As part of this Olympic and Paralympism Day at the Lycée français Alexandre Yersin, seminars and discussions also took place during which professional athletes shared their experiences and French specialists presented the organization of the Olympic Games. and technical and sustainability initiatives carried out for this global event were revealed.

The Day benefited from the presence of partner establishments of the French Embassy: the Phan Bôi Châu high school (province of Nghê An, Center), the Chu Van An high school and the Lê Quy Dôn college in Hanoi, offering the opportunity for students to communicate in French.

This special day was made possible thanks to the support of numerous partners: the National Olympic Committee of Vietnam, Decathlon, Kplus, Nescafé, EDF, the Île-de-France region, the Novotel and Grand Mercure hotels in Hanoi, and teams of volunteers. Everyone participated in the success of this sporting festival aimed at promoting Olympic values ​​and uniting the French-speaking community of Vietnam.
