Thursday, November 14, 2024, the day before the verdict, the day began with the testimonies of Serge and Logan D., father and brother of the accused, as well as that of Rachel R., paternal grandmother of little Eythan.

The interventions of Serge and Logan D. seemed oriented towards one objective: to minimize Lisa D's guilt. The father maintained his unconditional support for his daughter, firmly affirming her innocence.

Logan D. was questioned incisively by Gaël Scoubart's lawyers, due to the contradictions between his initial statements to investigators and his testimony before the court.

An apartment compared to a “recycling center”

During the inquest, Logan described his sister as a neglectful woman, absorbed in screens, consuming cannabis and leaving her home in a deplorable state, calling it a “garbage dump”. However, on the stand, he painted the portrait of an almost impeccable mother, although admitting small errors.

A moving testimony from a grandmother in search of justice

Rachel R. put her grandson back at the center of the debates: “I will go to the end for him. » His testimony, full of emotion, moved a large part of the audience.

She described Eythan as a happy child who she regularly took into her home. The photos of the child shown at the hearing reinforced the intensity of the moment. Bursting into tears, she expressed her feelings of guilt: “I never saw any bruises on his body. How can you do this to a child? »

The accused face their past

Lisa D., marked by the death of her mother at the age of 11, spoke of her isolation and her life turned to the screens since her release from detention. Gaël Scoubart, for his part, spoke of a troubled youth, marked by addictions and a precarious life.

Questioned about his criminal record, he gave explanations considered not very credible, his attitude reflecting a certain bad faith.

The lawyer for the Innocence in Danger association recalled an alarming figure: in , a child dies violently every five days, often in a family context. Returning to the case of Eythan, she underlined: “This little boy died in agony on a mattress placed on the floor, next to the cats. »

Maître Bertrand Faure, representing Eythan's relatives, denounced an “unworthy” mother and described the deterioration of the situation after the arrival of Gaël Scoubart in Lisa's life.

He concluded by recounting the last tragic hours of the child: “Eythan died alone, in total indifference. While one played at creating a virtual family, the other slept. We reach absolute sordidness. »

To close his argument, the lawyer quoted Sartre: “In life, we do not do what we want, but we are responsible for what we are. »
